The Opportunity

A large Midwest Internet marketing firm was in search of a fulfillment partner that could handle a large volume of orders shipping directly to their customers at home. These orders would need to be received, processed, picked, shipped, and confirmed within the same day. The volume could be as high as 8,000 – 10,000 orders in a single day. This all needs to be done while managing an inventory with over ten thousand SKUs.

The Solution

Distribution Alternatives' IT team developed a system process where orders would be received on an hourly basis. The packing documents would automatically print with the correct shipping label attached and then sent to the warehouse for fulfillment. All orders received by 3:30 P.M. are shipped the same day. A ship confirmation file for all orders is sent immediately to our client so that inventory may be decremented and stock availability for all items can be determined. The delivery frequency of this information was also critical as it allowed our client the ability to process credit cards in a timely manner.
