READING GLASS MANUFACTURER

The Opportunity

A manufacturer of reading glasses won the bid to distribute glasses to all Target stores. This distribution was to be done through Target’s CPD shipping model, individual store orders picked and labeled and shipped to the stores through the DCs.

Soon after gaining the Target business, this company also acquired the reading glass program for K-Mart. These orders needed to ship directly to all K-Mart stores.

The manufacturer did not have the infrastructure to accurately handle 5000 orders on a weekly basis.

The Solution

Distribution Alternatives implemented a picking area, with flows that were designed to handle the size and delicacy of this type of product. Hand held scanners were to scan each pair of glasses as they were picked ensuring accuracy and maintaining the efficiency of the picking process.

Distribution Alternatives also monitored the size of all orders which was having an impact on the profitability of the program.

Results

  • In the first year, Distribution Alternatives maintained a better that 99.5% fill rate accuracy.
  • Assisted our client in establishing order minimums that helped keep the program profitable.
  • Provided movement by item to minimize out of stocks and limit inventory of the slower moving items.
